Forfar Farmington were unfortunate to lose out by a solitary goal to Celtic on Sunday in a result that all but ends their hopes of finishing third in the SBSSWPL1.

Both sides had chances but Kathleen McGovern gave the visitors all three points as she reacted first to a rebound.

Megan Robb replaced Alana Bruce as the only change with coaches Nathan Flight and Claire Garrett taking charge as Mark Nisbet was unavailable.

The first chance fell to Danni McGinley in the seventh minute when she turned her marker before firing over.

Sixty seconds later Nicole Cairney fired wide and over as both sides were end to end early on.

Cheryl Kilcoyne sent a free kick over the bar shortly before McGinley was denied by Emily Mutch in the 15^th minute.

The visitors’ Kathleen McGovern sent a header into Fiona McNicoll’s arms while McGinley was inches away from giving Farmington the lead with a low effort that creeped past the post.

Farmington were to rue that missed opportunity in the 18^th minute; Ewens saw her shot parried by McNicoll and McGovern reacted first to break the deadlock for Celtic.

Eddie Wolecki Black’s side looked to double their advantage shortly after as Ewens curled a free kick wide.

Kilcoyne had an effort deflected into Mutch’s arms before Kayleigh Brough was also unlucky as her header from Nicola Davidson’s free kick was held.

The final two chances of the half fell to Natalie Ross and McGovern but neither could find the target.

The second half almost saw an early second for Celtic when Brough cleared off the line following a Ewens corner.

The visiting attacker couldn’t beat McNicoll with two efforts meanwhile Kirsty Deans and Caroline Heron saw chances blocked by defenders as Farmington were seeking an equaliser.

McGovern was denied by McNicoll again while Mutch held Heron’s long range effort with the game still looking like either side could score next.

As the game entered the final ten minutes Ewens, McGovern and Kelly Clark all sent shots off target.

The clock moved into injury time and Farmington were given a chance to grab a late equaliser as they were awarded a free kick 25 yards out; Nicola Davidson stepped up but couldn’t keep her set piece down and the ball landed in the Mert End.

The result means that Farmington are now eight points behind Celtic with three games remaining and the next fixture is their final away game when they visit Spartans.

It was a historic evening on Friday at Station Park with Forfar Farmington and Hibernian playing in the first ever televised Scottish women’s league game.

Despite some thinking a clash with Scotland’s game would keep fans away, a new club record attendance of 352 watched as two late Hibernian goals gave them all three points.

Head coach Mark Nisbet kept the same starting XI that played against Stirling University, with two changes to the bench as Julia Scott and Beth McPherson were replaced by Leah White and Lotte Deubel.

In the opening stages Hibernian had the lion’s share of the possession but struggled to break down a tough Farmington defence, with Megan McCarthy in particular denying the visiting attackers.

The first clear cut chance came in the 13^th minute when Robyn Smith chipped a through ball towards goal; Danni McGinley nipped past the defence and lobbed Jenna Fife but the ball bounced away from goal and wide.

Following this, Hibs started to carve our chances of their own as former Farmington attacker Amy Gallacher fired at Fiona McNicoll.

On the half hour mark Lisa Robertson almost put Hibs ahead with a freak goal as her corner swung in before clipping the top of the crossbar.

Three minutes later Cassie Cowper was unlucky not to connect with a Robyn Smith corner at the other end.

Abi Harrison fired over from distance but the best chance of the half fell to Farmington striker Caroline Heron when her effort beat Fife but found the sidenetting.

Farmington were defending well despite increased pressure from the visitors and the final chance fell to Hibs’ Siobhan Hunter; a free kick played her way allowed her to strike a 25 yard effort into the arms of McNicoll.

Hibs came out from the break keen to get that vital goal and half time sub Rachel McLauchlan rounded McNicoll a minute after the restart but lost her footing and missed the open goal.

Jamie-Lee Napier and Kirsten Reilly failed to find the target for Hibs but at the other end Heron sent a 50 yard strike towards goal only to see the ball land over the bar.

Megan McCarthy saw a header held from a Smith corner and shortly after Kayleigh Brough saw her shot blocked as a throw in caused problems in the Hibs box.

Harrison was getting closer to goal as she dragged her shot past the post but she made the breakthrough for Hibs with thirteen minutes left. A through ball saw Harrison race clear and despite McNicoll saving the first effort the rebound hit Harrison and she stroked the ball into the net.

Farmington kept the hunt for an equaliser up but it was to be in vain in injury time as Robertson’s cross wasn’t cleared and sub Lauren Davidson bundled the ball home.

Despite the defeat, Farmington can be happy with their performance in front of a record crowd in the first ever televised SBSSWPL fixture.

Forfar Farmington conceded an injury time equaliser as Stirling University took a share of the spoils on Sunday at a wet Station Park.

After Gemma Mason put Stirling ahead, Caroline Heron turned it around for Farmington but slack defending allowed Demi Falconer to bundle home a late equaliser for the students.

Mark Nisbet made two changes to his side that lost to Glasgow City as Robyn Smith and Danni McGinley returned with Rebecca Dempster and Megan Robb dropping to the bench.

Forfar had the majority of the play early on with Caroline Heron curling wide before Danni McGinley latched onto a Heron ball before firing off target.

The chances continued at the Gammies end of the ground as McGinley was played through but could only strike straight at Chloe Logan.

McGinley was denied by Logan again before Robyn Smith cut the ball back in the 27^th minute; it fell kindly for Heron but she could only find the sidenetting.

Stirling’s first clear cut opportunity fell seven minutes later to Eva Rule as her ambitious strike curled towards goal but Farmington keeper Fiona McNicoll clawed the ball away.

Farmington were struggling to convert their possession and chances into goals with Smith seeing her effort deflected into the grateful arms of Logan and they were to pay for it seven minutes from the break.

The visitors broke forward and Gemma Mason was given an opportunity to have a go from 25 yards, her effort taking a touch off a defender and deceiving McNicoll as it rolled into the bottom corner.

Stirling’s lead was to last just five minutes however when Smith’s free kick caused panic amongst the visiting defence allowing Heron to stab home at the second attempt.

The away side started the second half stronger than they did the first and looked to create more than they did in the first half; Kendra Bonsall coming closest as her effort was over the bar from a Rule cross.

It was Heron was grabbed the equaliser and the striker was at it again in the 58^th minute from another Smith free kick as she rose highest to nod past Logan for her fifth of the season.

Bonsall had another chance fly over as she connected with a Doran-Barr cross while Heron did the same from a Smith corner as she hunted for her hat-trick.

Farmington did have the ball in the net with fifteen minutes remaining as Danni McGinley outmuscled a defender before stroking past Logan, however referee David Fearn awarded a free kick to Stirling after ruling McGinley had fouled her marker.

Left back Cassie Cowper fired over from long range and following this Stirling turned up the pressure on the hosts.

While Stirling couldn’t convert pressure into chances Smith had one of her own at the other end with an overhead effort that was held easily by Logan.

The Stirling pressure paid off in injury time when Lisa Sutherland’s corner created problems inside the six yard box and Demi-Lee Falconer got the vital touch as she diverted the ball into the net.

Despite dropping two points, Farmington will stay in fourth, extending their lead over Rangers to four points after they lost to Spartans.

Mark Nisbet will hope his side can improve when they take on Hibernian after the international break.

Forfar Farmington were defeated 6-0 by Glasgow City on Sunday as they entered the final third of the SBSSWPL1 season.

A first half own goal by Cassie Cowper had City in front at the break, with four goals in eighteen minutes putting City comfortably ahead before Leanne Ross netting a late penalty for the hosts.

Mark Nisbet made three changes with Robyn Smith suspended, Danni McGinley and Gemma Collier both unavailable; Megan Robb, Kayleigh Brough and Caroline Heron the replacements.

The hosts took an early lead when Lidija Kulis’ effort was blocked and it fell to Sam Kerr; her shot was diverted into the net by Cassie Cowper.

City had the lion’s share of possession and all the chances in the first half but were struggling to find the target as Abbi Grant, Kirsty Howat and Jo Love all fired wide.

Kulis sent a shot directly at Fiona McNicoll in the 29^th minute as the hosts looked for a second before Howat blasted over from the edge of the box.

McNicoll was called into action three minutes before the break when Kulis’ chance was parried by the keeper but Howat couldn’t force the loose ball on target.

City kept up their pressure after the break and found a way through the Forfar defence in the 47^th minute; Nicola Docherty’s cross wasn’t cleared and Love fired low past McNicoll.

Love grabbed her second and City’s third three minutes later as she nodded into the bottom corner.

It was four for City just before the hour mark in controversial circumstances as Howat’s effort struck the bar before bouncing away from goal, the assistant ruling it had crossed the line.

A minute later Farmington were denied what looked like a perfectly fine goal as Nicola Davidson’s cross hit the bar before it was played back in and Cheryl Kilcoyne headed in. The opposite assistant flagged for offside despite the ball being in front of Kilcoyne when it was sent towards her.

Docherty added a fifth in the 62^nd minute with a cross-cum-shot that deceived McNicoll and flew into the net.

Megan McCarthy saw a header held by Lee Alexander from a Megan Robb corner before Caroline Heron fired wide from distance as Farmington looked for some consolation.

Howat sent a tame effort at McNicoll before sub Karsey McGlinchey hit the post from the edge of the box.

City finished things off with two minutes remaining; Love’s effort handled by McCarthy and captain Leanne Ross stepped up to slot home the spot kick.

A bright note for Farmington was the Premier League debut of Sandra Craig, the attacker impressing for Jeff Rioch’s Ladies side prior to this.

Forfar Farmington returned to the top half of the Scottish Building Society Scottish Women’s Premier League One with a 1-0 win over Rangers.

Danni McGinley’s 35^th minute goal was enough to ensure all three points stayed at Station Park in a tight clash.

In the first game following the summer break, Gemma Collier and Rebecca Dempster replaced Caroline Heron and Kayleigh Brough, with Dempster making her first start since returning while Kirsty Deans and Cheryl Kilcoyne returned from long injury lay offs to take the place of Megan Robb and Erin Cattanach.

Both sides started off well in an even beginning; the first chance falling to Cassie Cowper four minutes in; Danni McGinley’s throw in was flicked on but the full back could only divert the loose ball over at the back post under pressure.

Four minutes later Cheryl Kilcoyne’s cross found Kirsty Deans and the latter fired at Khym Ramsay.

Chantelle Brown had her effort held by Fiona McNicoll as Rangers attempted to create their own chances.

Deans failed to find the target after quarter of an hour, meanwhile Jade Gallon did the same with a header following a Brogan Hay ball at the other end.

Sarah Robertson sent a tame attempt towards goal but McNicoll easily scooped up the poor shot in the 21^st minute.

Just ten minutes before the break, Farmington took the lead when a fantastically timed through ball by Robyn Smith found McGinley and she rounded Ramsay and was more than happy to slot the ball into the back of the empty net.

Rangers looked to get back into the game before half time but Jade Gallon couldn’t get her free kick on target and it whistled past the post.

Farmington came out for the second half keen to double their advantage and came close twice in quick succession as Smith threatened Ramsay on both occasions.

Clare Gemmell sent a corner in that fell to Brown on the edge of the box, however she failed to find the target again.

Jade Gallon threatened once again in the 65^th minute as she hit the side netting with the same player curling wide after a run towards goal six minutes later.

Twelve minutes before the end Smith hit the wall with a 20 yard free kick and when the loose ball returned to her she blasted her follow up effort wide.

Rangers were pushing for an equaliser but were failing to get a shot away; when they did they were more often than not missing the target or having tame efforts held by McNicoll, Gemmell’s 81^st minute shot one of the latter examples.

Brogan Hay fired at McNicoll following a run by Jade Gallon as Rangers kept up their hunt for a goal but the final chance came for the hosts deep into injury time.

Farmington turned up the pressure on the Rangers back line and this almost paid off as the ball was collected and given to Caroline Heron but her effort was deflected wide.

The result puts Farmington above Rangers, returning to fourth place in the SBSSWPL1 with the season entering the final third.

Forfar Farmington were defeated 6-1 by Glasgow City on Sunday with the score line flattering the visitors as the SBSSWPL1 heads into the summer break.

Goals from Abbi Grant, Hayley Lauder, Maddie Hill, Nicola Docherty and Jo Love gave City the points with Megan Robb netting for Mark Nisbet’s side.

Just one change was made from Wednesday’s defeat to Hibernian as Sophie Milligan replaced Alana Bruce, with the side still suffering due to injuries and absences.

Farmington came out looking like the better side and could have gone ahead after four minutes; Caroline Heron sent Danni McGinley through on goal but she could only fire wide while under pressure by the City defence.

City almost handed Farmington the lead two minutes later when a poor pass back meant Heron put Erin Clachers under pressure; the keeper rattled a clearance off the attacker but the ball creeped past the post.

The visitors took the lead with their first chance after nine minutes with a low cross by Hayley Lauder stabbed home by Abbi Grant.

City doubled their advantage in the 17^th minute with Grant turning provider as Jo Love found the back of the net.

Sophie Milligan hooked a chance off the line before Beth McPherson couldn’t keep her effort down at the other end.

Farmington pulled a goal back ten minutes before the break; Donna Paterson received the ball inside the box from Clachers and as she turned to clear the ball Megan Robb nipped in to divert the ball into the empty net.

The two goal lead was restored sixty seconds later with Grant netting her second of the afternoon.

Grant came close to grabbing her hat trick shortly after the break when she forced a save from Fiona McNicoll.

Robyn Smith and McGinley combined in the 57^th minute to set up Caroline Heron, with her low shot flying past the post.

The visitors hit the crossbar two minutes later through Jo Love with the veteran firing over shortly after.

The difference between City and a patched up Farmington side started to show in the final fifteen minutes as City added three goals in eleven minutes.

In the 75^th minute Nicola Docherty received the ball just inside the box, taking a touch before sending the shot past McNicoll for their fourth.

The lead was extended two minutes later as substitute Maddie Hill finished from close range before Hayley Lauder completed the scoring four minutes from time.

Farmington could have pulled a goal back in added time when Danni McGinley forced a save from Clachers.

The result brings to an end a tough week for Mark Nisbet’s side, with several players playing through knocks as the league comes to a close for the summer break.

Forfar Farmington’s recent winning run in the SBSSWPL1 came to an end on Wednesday evening as title contenders Hibernian netted six without reply.

Goals from Rachel McLauchlan, Kirsten Reilly, Lizzie Arnot, Jamie-Lee Napier and an Abi Harrison double sealed the win for the hosts at Peffermill.

Mark Nisbet made two changes following Sunday’s SSE Scottish Women’s Cup exit with Beth McPherson and Erin Cattanach replacing Alison Debio and Cassie Cowper.

Farmington could have taken the lead just nine seconds in when Danni McGinley set up Caroline Heron, however the striker’s effort was held by Jenna Fife.

Hibs’ first chance fell to Kirsty Smith but she could only curl into Fiona McNicoll’s arms before Lizzie Arnot had a shot blocked shortly after.

The hosts took the lead after 20 minutes; Forfar looked to be creating an opportunity before the Hibs defence cleared and started a counter attack, ending in Rachel McLauchlan firing past McNicoll.

McNicoll parried a Harrison effort but it wasn’t long before the lead was doubled as Lisa Robertson’s cross found the unmarked Kirsten Reilly and she was more than happy to head home.

The Farmington keeper was in fine form, denying Robertson and Reilly while Harrison blasted over.

Heron came close for Farmington again as the game edged closer to half time; firing over after a cut back by winger Robyn Smith.

Arnot and Harrison were next to be stopped by McNicoll on the stroke of half time.

Following the break, McNicoll was forced into saves from Reilly, Robertson and Harrison but it wasn’t long until Hibs extended their lead.

Ten minutes into the second half a Reilly cross into the danger zone found Arnot who stroked the ball past the keeper.

A seven minute spell saw Hibs add a further three goals to their tally; the first came in the 71^st minute when Harrison found the bottom corner of the net from close range.

Three minutes later Kirsty Smith made her way into the box before cutting the ball back for sub Jamie-Lee Napier to bundle into the back of the net.

The scoring was completed with twelve minutes remaining with Harrison grabbing her second following a run through the defence, completing a solo effort.

The hosts had chances to extend their lead late on but were unable to beat McNicoll again.

The result ends Farmington’s unbeaten run with another tough fixture to come before the summer break as Glasgow City visit Station Park on Sunday.

Forfar Farmington exited the SSE Scottish Women’s Cup at the second round after a 3-0 defeat at home to Glasgow City on Sunday.

Goals from Leanne Ross, Abbi Grant and Sam Kerr meant Farmington were defeated by City for the second year running after last season’s semi final encounter.

Mark Nisbet made just one change to the side after the win over Hamilton Accies a fortnight ago with the injured Cheryl Kilcoyne replaced by Alison Debio.

The visitors had chances early on with Kirsty Howat hitting the bar before Abbi Grant curled over after driving at the Farmington defence.

Fiona McNicoll did well with City’s first effort on target when Megan Foley’s low shot looked to be creeping in but the keeper scrambled across to push it away.

City took the lead in the 27^th minute; Leanne Ross’ free kick finding the back of the net despite McNicoll getting a hand to it.

The lead was doubled ten minutes later with Ross sending another free kick into the box and Abbi Grant rose highest to send a header past McNicoll.

The final chance of the half fell to Farmington, however Nicola Davidson could only find the side netting with her free kick.

City killed the game off four minutes after the restart; a low cross found Sam Kerr and she fired into the back of the net via a slight deflection off her own teammate.

Farmington started to create a couple of chances after this with Alana Bruce finding Caroline Heron, although the attacker could only fire over the bar.

In the 64^th minute Robyn Smith played a quick corner and after receiving the ball again, she fired a cross into the box; sub Beth McPherson’s header was parried by a desperate Lee Alexander and the keeper did well to deny the follow up by Heron.

Shortly after this Grant hit the bar as she looked for her second and City’s fourth against her former side.

The game quietened down in the last twenty minutes as substitutions interrupted the flow, however there were late chances for both sides; Crichton seeing her header expertly tipped over by McNicoll before McPherson had another header cleared.

The result now means Farmington can now focus on building on their current fourth place in the SBSSWPL1 with games against Hibernian at Peffermill on Wednesday before City visit Station Park on Sunday.

Forfar Farmington continued their good run of form with a tight 2-1 win over Hamilton Academical in the SBSSWPL1.

After a goalless first half Robyn Smith put Farmington ahead before Katie Rice equalised, however Megan McCarthy secured all three points for Mark Nisbet’s side.

Just one change was made from the midweek win over Stirling University as Nicola Davidson replaced Tammy Harkin.

Accies had the first chance of the game four minutes in when Katie Rice’s tame effort was held by Fiona McNicoll.

Four minutes later Robyn Smith fired wide after being put through by Danni McGinley before Caroline Heron saw a header cleared from a Smith corner.

McGinley found herself set up by Smith in the 21^st minute but her shot was deflected past the post.

Heron headed wide shortly before Rice saw a free kick held by McNicoll as the half drew to a close.

The final chances of the half fell to Megan McCarthy and McGinley, however neither of them could fine the target.

Farmington came storming out of the blocks after half time and took the lead less than sixty seconds after the restart. Cassie Cowper played the ball towards the box and despite the Hamilton defence having three players surrounding the ball, they failed to deal with it and Smith nipped in to lob Grant for her fourth goal of the season.

McGinley and Heron came close to doubling the lead before Nicola Davidson tried to repeat her goal at Celtic last Sunday as she sent a long range free kick towards goal but Grant scrambled to push the effort wide.

From the corner Forfar failed to threaten and from the counter attack Hamilton equalised in controversial circumstances. The ball fell outside the box and Cheryl Kilcoyne attempted to reach it along with a Hamilton player, the Farmington midfielder looked like she was fouled as she was sent spinning in the air. The referee allowed play to go on despite Kilcoyne being in some distress and the visitors took advantage with Rice finding the back of the net.

Following the goal Kilcoyne attempted to play on but was forced off as she was taken to hospital, with the club later informed she had cracked her collarbone.

The scores were level for just ten minutes as Farmington were awarded a free kick in the 68^th minute; Davidson lofted the set piece into the box and McCarthy headed past Grant for her first goal of the season.

The final twenty minutes of the game were end to end as both sides looked for a vital goal, Hamilton came closest deep into injury time when Amy Bulloch rattled the crossbar before the loose ball was cleared.

Hamilton could, and maybe should, have had a penalty late on as Rice’s free kick looked like it hit the hand of McCarthy but the referee waved away claims. The resulting corner found the head of Kirsty Fraser, but she couldn’t find the target in the final chance of the game.

The result pushes Farmington thirteen points away from the foot of the table and are now just two points away from third.

Forfar Farmington made it four wins from five in May with a comfortable 3-0 win at Ochilview over Stirling University on Wednesday night.

A goal in either half by Caroline Heron along with Megan Robb’s second goal since joining moved the side six points clear of the bottom half of the table.

With players missing through work commitments, Tammy Harkin and Megan Robb were drafted into the starting XI to replace captain Nicola Davidson and Beth McPherson.

The hosts almost got on to a perfect start just 30 seconds in as Orla King’s cross found Tegan Reynolds but her effort was easily held by Fiona McNicoll.

Three minutes later Farmington had their first chance as Tammy Harkin set up Caroline Heron on the edge of the box; her shot found the arms of Chloe Logan.

Danni McGinley combined with Megan Robb shortly after as the latter sent a cross in for Harkin, she controlled the ball before firing at the keeper.

At the other end Rebecca Galbraith latched onto a long ball, however her final effort failed to trouble McNicoll as she blasted over.

Heron and Kayleigh Brough were denied by Logan but it wasn’t long before the Stirling keeper was beaten. In the 21^st minute Alana Bruce sent a fantastic cross from deep and Heron rose highest to head the ball into the back of the net via the post.

Farmington kept up their pressure following this with Cheryl Kilcoyne failing to find the target before Harkin hit the sidenetting.

On the stroke of half time the lead was doubled; Robyn Smith’s corner was sent into the box and Stirling failed to clear with Megan McCarthy knocking the ball down allowing Megan Robb to get the decisive touch as the assistant referee judged the ball had crossed the line.

It was much the same after the break as Mark Nisbet’s side hunted for a third goal and almost got it through Smith when her corner hit the bar with Logan beaten.

In the 51^st minute Harkin tried her luck from distance, however her shot was going wide until Danni McGinley deflected it towards goal with Logan scrambling to collect it.

McGinley had a header from Bruce’s cross held while at the other end Reynolds had a tame shot find the arms of McNicoll.

It was almost three for Farmington in the 56^th minute when Robb rattled the post, however she was ruled offside as she met Kilcoyne’s cross.

Sixty seconds later Robb tried her luck from long range but couldn’t beat Logan for a second time.

The attacker then headed wide from a McGinley cross before Smith sent a 30 yard free kick flying over the bar.

McGinley and Kilcoyne were close to adding a third but it finally came in the 76^th minute when another Bruce cross found Heron and she was more than happy to bury the ball into the back of the net for her second and Farmington’s third.

This killed the game off and Farmington were more than happy to see the game out without really threatening the keeper in the final quarter of an hour.

The result sees Farmington move six points ahead of Rangers and consolidate their fourth place position after an impressive month.
