The East Region League Cup travelled back up the A90 from Dundee in the possession of Forfar Farmington U15s after they gave a first class performance against Raith Rovers FC that saw them retain the trophy. A standout day for girls’ football in the Region that saw a huge amount of players from many teams either participating in a friendly tournament or competing in the U13, U15 and U17 League Cups was capped from our perspective by the success of our U15 girls.
The day started off with the team in a spirit of togetherness as they made their way to Dundee on the team coach. This togetherness and team spirit continued on to the pitch from the minute the whistle blew as our girls immediately pressed the Raith defence. A number of near misses, great saves by the Raith keeper and resolute defending saw the match remain goalless until some great play by Neve Guthrie saw her get to the line before cutting the ball back to Philippa McCallum who made no mistake as she dispatched the ball into the net. It wasn’t long before a second for Forfar came along and it was Neve Simpson who clinically fired home after a great ball in from Steffi Simson had found her in the box. Forfar were now really stretching the Raith defence with great possession and continual offensive play and they were rewarded with a great goal. Taylor Clifford played a lovely ball into the path of the onrushing Katie White whose perfect cross was met first-time by Neve Guthrie to fire home. A fourth and final goal of the first arrived when a super Amy Docherty cross was met by Aimee Robertson who reacted quickest to pick it up and then turn the defender to fire home.
The second half saw the girls from Forfar picking up from where they left off as they yet again pressed and pressured their opponents. The pressing play paid off when a loose ball across the box was picked up by Steffi Simson who calmly rolled the ball into the far corner. Steffi added to her tally two minutes later with a fierce angled drive that fairly flew into the net. Neve Guthrie again added an assist to her performance when another cutback was met by Kacey McCabe who firmly placed a controlled strike into the net. Neve Simpson then added to her tally when she latched on to a Taylor Clifford through ball to fire home and it was Taylor who then got her name on the score sheet with a well-taken goal.
The match then played out its remainder in a competitive manner without any further scoring from either side.
Rachel Robbie was captain for the day and she was delighted to receive the cup and lift it aloft to the cheers of her team-mates. Well done on your achievement girls from everyone involved with the club.

You are all what this club is about and that is girls and ladies football here in Forfar and Angus well done to you all, you were fantastic!!”
