Hat-trick hero Julia Scott was elated to grab the match ball but admits she feels she could have played even better in Forfar Farmington’s 7-0 win on Sunday.
Scott netted three while another was awarded as an own goal before having one ruled out for a contentious offside decision as the side coasted into the quarter finals of the SSE Scottish Women’s Cup.
The attacker explained that she is always of the belief that she can do better after every game with this pushing her to improve each week.
Scott said: “I’m delighted with the win, it’s good to get on the score sheet but I always feel I could have performed a little better, I think that pushes me in training. I’m not sure what happened with the offside goal but that’s football, I was positive I was behind the ball but you have to just play on and push for the next one.”
The former Scotland internationalist has now netted eight goals as well as chipping in with ten assists in what has been a successful season so far and Scott admits she is just happy to be playing each week.
“It’s a season of up and downs for me but I am extremely happy and grateful to be on the pitch playing the game I love, I always strive for more and hopefully there will be.”
Farmington were drawn away to SWFL1 South outfit Cumbernauld Colts in the SSE Scottish Women’s Cup quarter finals and Scott is under no illusions about the difficulty of the tie with Colts sitting third in the league below Forfar.
“Cumbernauld Colts may be the only team out with the Premier League left in the cup but they are not a team to be underestimated. They have done very well to get into the quarter finals and looking at their results they can score goals.”
“We will have to go into this game like any other, firstly for the win but also under no illusions that it will be a walk in the park. Cumbernauld will be motivated being the ‘underdog’ so we need to not be complacent and play the way we know we can.”
2016 was a season to forget for the club with relegation from Scottish Women’s Premier League One; however Scott hopes to prove that they are a club that can bounce back.
“After a disappointing season in 2016 I hope we can prove that Forfar is a team that will bounce back and compete no matter what the challenge is. We will take it one game at a time and who knows what could be on the cards for this club.”
This Sunday sees a return to league action and a trip to Jeanfield Swifts in Perth; Scott feels it will be a tricky fixture at the McDiarmid Park Astroturf.
“Jeanfield are a strong, determined side so it will be tough but hopefully we will go into the game with confidence after Sunday’s result. Every team wants to take three points from us so they will have that motivation going into the match. Even at 7-0 we didn’t play as well as we could have in parts of the game so we will need to rectify that for travelling to Jeanfield.”
