Kilcoyne Reckons Future Is Bright For Development Squad

Cheryl Kilcoyne was delighted with Forfar Farmington’s development side’s win over Dunfermline Athletic and believes that the youngsters have a big future in the game.

A double from Sally Patterson and Leah White’s excellent strike sealed a 3-1 against the Pars, who grabbed a late consolation through Sarah Gibson.

Patterson netted from a corner early on while White capped off a weaving run with a top corner effort from the edge of the box.

The former added a third in the first half when she sprinted from her own half before rounding the keeper and placing the ball in the empty net with Gibson netting a consolation for the hosts.

The result extended the undefeated run and kept Forfar in the mix at the top of the SWFL First Division North; Kilcoyne feels the girls have adapted to senior football well having played at under 17’s level until July.

“I was really pleased with the win especially against a well developed Dunfermline team. The game was very physical but we were able to hold our own and score early which gave us the confidence to go on and win the game.”

“Every single one of those girls has stepped up and taken it completely in their stride. When I was first told of the new set up I was sceptical and wasn’t sure if they would be able to compete physically but they have proved me wrong. Since the break we haven’t lost a game so it just shows how hard the girls are challenging themselves. We continue to set our standards higher & higher each game and I have no doubt we will prove ourselves next season in the under 20’s league.”

The 21 year old attacker is the most experienced player in the squad, having appeared for the Premier League squad as well and while she admits she is still learning, she is more than happy to pass her experience of playing regularly from a young age.

“I’m more than happy to help the girls in any way I can. I find it easy to talk to the girls and help them on and off the pitch because I have been in their situation before and I have played at a high level from a young age. The girls have so much ability and potential and I am learning all of the time playing alongside them. There is so much more to come from this squad and I am excited to see what the future holds!”
