Stevie Baxter referred to the afternoon as “embarrassing” as Forfar Farmington conceded ten goals away to Glasgow City on Sunday.

In the final game before the summer break, Farmington conceded five in either half, with a trialist netting a consolation 28 seconds after the break.

A goalkeeping situation through injuries and unavailability meant Baxter was forced to play Kayleigh Brough in goal. This wasn’t new to the defender as she had played in goal in her youth career as well as playing in an SWPL fixture in November 2014.

Despite the score line, Farmington arguably started off the first half the better side with the first chance after four minutes; Donna Paterson sending a free kick into the box and after controlling it Cassie Cowper lashed an effort over the bar.

At the other end Leanne Crichton couldn’t get her header on target from Leanne Ross’ corner.

Beth McPherson went even closer in the eighth minute, receiving the ball from Beth Shillitto before firing inches past the post.

Eight minutes later City opened the scoring as Jenna Clark got the slightest of touches to a Ross free kick to divert it into the net.

In the 26^th minute it was two as another Ross set piece was netted by Kirsty Howat.

The lead was extended two minutes after the second goal as Murron Cunningham gave Kayleigh Brough no chance.

A further two goals was added before the break in the 38^th and 41^st minute when Howat grabbed her second and Hayley Sinclair made it 5-0.

Just 28 seconds after the break Farmington had pulled one back; Danni McGinley held off her marker to spray the ball out to Erin Cattanach whose cross was blocked but the ball fell to McGinley again and she laid off Alana Bruce for a cross that found the trialist striker and she lifted the ball past Lee Alexander.

Stevie Baxter’s side almost had another shortly after when Shillitto sprayed a cross into the box and the trialist and Cheryl Kilcoyne were agonisingly close to meeting the ball but the danger was cleared by City.

Beth McPherson tried her luck from 35 yards but sub keeper Erin Clachers held her long range strike.

In the 51^st minute the five goal lead was restored when Clare Shine fired past Brough.

Four minutes later City were awarded a penalty when Cattanch was adjudged to have fouled Sinclair just inside the box. Ross stepped up and saw her spot kick saved by the legs of Brough but she reacted quickest to the rebound to make it 7-1.

Shortly after the hour mark it was eight for City when Shine and Megan Foley combined for the former to net her second of the afternoon.

Shine could have completed her hat trick ten minutes later but was denied by Brough while she blazed well over the bar when it was easier to score after Nicola Docherty had hit the post.

Docherty made up for hitting the post by adding a ninth in the 72^nd minute before Hayley Sinclair completed the scoring with her second and City’s tenth a minute later.

All in all it was an afternoon that hurt the players and backroom staff but they will look to work hard over the summer break and bounce back from this in the second half of the season.

Forfar Farmington can count themselves unlucky not to have taken anything as they lost out by the odd goal in five to Rangers on Wednesday.

Goals from Robyn Smith and Nicola Davidson were not enough for Farmington as Sarah Robertson, Clare Gemmell and Jade Gallon gave Rangers all three points.

Head coach Stevie Baxter made two changes to his team as Donna Paterson and Robyn Smith replaced Megan Robb and Kayleigh Brough.

Farmington started off strongly as they almost scored straight away; Nicola Davidson’s corner being sent inches past the post by Cassie Cowper less than a minute after kick off.

In the sixth minute Donna Paterson’s free kick caused problems for Rangers but Farmington couldn’t capitalise as Beth McPherson headed wide of the mark.

Rangers almost scored two minutes later through Chantelle Brown when her long range strike was tipped over the bar by Fiona McNicoll.

Danni McGinley had a golden opportunity to put Stevie Baxter’s side ahead in the thirteenth minute after racing onto a Robyn Smith through ball but as she burst into the box her effort was saved by Chloe Nicolson.

Farmington were made to rue this miss 60 seconds later as the visitors took the lead through Sarah Robertson against the run of play.

Despite going behind, Farmington still looked the better side in the opening half hour and almost equalised in the 17^th minute but Paterson couldn’t find the target with a header from Davidson’s free kick.

Smith was next to miss a fantastic chance; collecting a McGinley lofted ball but after turning her marker she fired over the bar from ten yards.

The duo were involved as Farmington equalised five minutes after going behind; Paterson’s free kick was flicked on by McGinley and this allowed Smith to head past the oncoming Nicolson for her first goal of the season.

Rangers captain Clare Gemmell blasted wide from long range while at the other end Smith almost punished a poor clearance but Nicolson recovered to deny her.

In the 29^th minute Amy Muir saw her shot deflected wide and from the corner Rangers restored their lead as Gemmell’s corner flew straight in.

Rangers looked the better side for the remainder of the half but didn’t look close to scoring as Holly Napier blasted over while Brown went one better and sent her shot soaring over the Mert End and into Market Muir.

The first chance of the second half fell to Smith but she couldn’t find a way past Nicolson while at the other end Alana Bruce put in a fantastic block to deny Robertson as she looked odds on to score.

Carla Boyce sent a volley wide for the visitors in the 53^rd minute as Rangers looked to consolidate their lead.

Shortly after the hour mark Davidson sent a free kick into the box that found McPherson but she couldn’t get her effort on target.

Muir was next to try her luck for Rangers from outside the box but failed to keep her effort down.

In the 65^th minute Paterson’s free kick caused problems again, however as the ball fell to Robyn Smith she had a swipe at fresh air and the ball was eventually cleared.

Rangers were awarded a penalty six minutes later and Jade Gallon stepped up to fire past McNicoll to make it 3-1.

McPherson headed over from a Davidson corner kick as Farmington kept hunting for a second goal and she was involved in the 78^th minute as they were awarded a penalty of their own.

Rosie McQuillan was booked as she was holding the midfielder inside the box and captain Davidson sent her penalty coolly down the middle to reduce the deficit.

Both sides were still on the look out for another vital goal with Rangers’ McQuillan firing over in injury time.

Farmington felt they should have had a penalty late on as Beth McPherson looked to have been fouled as she shaped up to shoot but referee David Fearn waved away strong appeals by players.

The result was perhaps harsh on Farmington who looked good enough to have taken something away from the game, however they will rue failing to capitalise on chances.

Forfar Farmington fell to a disappointing 2-0 defeat away to Motherwell in the Scottish Building Society Scottish Women’s Premier League on Sunday.

Goals in either half from Katie Rice and Chelsea McEachran gave the hosts all three points at Ravenscraig as Farmington fell seven points behind Motherwell in the league.

Stevie Baxter made two changes from last week’s 4-3 loss to Celtic as Erin Cattanach and Alana Bruce replaced Donna Paterson and Katie Hassett.

Motherwell came close in the first 60 seconds as a speculative effort from Lori Gardner hit the crossbar before Fiona McNicoll gathered the loose effort.

Beth MacLeod fired wide from the edge of the box before she had another effort saved with the follow up by Gardner cleared off the line by Alana Bruce.

The hosts took the lead in the 19^th minute when a corner wasn’t cleared and Katie Rice took the opportunity to head home.

Farmington attacker Danni McGinley saw a header held by Anna Vincenti after connecting with Nicola Davidson’s corner two minutes after going behind.

At the other end Rice was looking for her and Motherwell’s second but was denied by McNicoll as the keeper pushed her effort wide.

Davidson curled a free kick wide of the mark in the 23^rd minute before Cheryl Kilcoyne looked to replicate her strike against Celtic as she saw her 30 yard strike saved by Vincenti.

Farmington started to carve out more chances towards the end of the first half when Erin Cattanach set up McGinley but her effort was at Vincenti while Davidson’s half volley from distance flew inches past the post.

The hosts had the early chances in the second half as Rice, Claire Adams and Chelsea McEachran came close.

McGinley was given a free kick 25 yards out just after the hour mark but her strike failed to beat the wall while Cattanach blazed wide as a corner was cleared as far as her.

Cassie Cowper sent a fierce volley across the face of goal with fifteen minutes remaining and Robyn Smith came even closer a minute later as she collected a McGinley pass before her strike was palmed over the bar by Vincenti.

Davidson saw another free kick saved by the keeper shortly after but it was Motherwell who grabbed the next goal in the 81^st minute; McEachran sent clear and slotted past McNicoll to seal all three points.

The result means Farmington stay seventh in the table and are out of action this weekend due to the SWPL Cup final.

Forfar Farmington lost out to the odd goal in seven in a thrilling game that saw Celtic take all three points from Station Park on Sunday.

Cheryl Kilcoyne’s phenomenal strike along with goals from Danni McGinley and Beth Shillitto were not enough as Stevie Baxter’s side were harshly denied anything from the game.

With injuries and unavailability ruling a number of players out, four changes were made to the starting XI; Megan Robb, Beth McPherson, Kayleigh Brough and Rebecca Dempster replacing Leah White, Robyn Smith, Alana Bruce and Hannah Stewart.

They got off to the worst possible start just 79 seconds after kick off when Keeva Keenan forced her way into the box allowing Celtic trialist Suzanne Mulvey to fire home.

This didn’t deter Farmington however and they settled into the game quickly; Megan Robb sent a lob over Megan Cunningham but it was cleared by a defender.

Sarah Ewens blasted over for the visitors in the fifth minute and two minutes later at the other end Beth McPherson was inches away from connecting with Cassie Cowper’s cross, this wasn’t cleared and Rebecca Dempster sent her shot into the arms of the keeper.

Emma Black failed to find the target from the edge of the box as Celtic looked to extend their lead, however in the 23^rd minute Farmington were back on level terms with what could be the goal of the season.

A botched Celtic clearance spun up into the air and Dempster nodded the ball to Kilcoyne who took a touch before sending a fantastic strike into the top corner from 30 yards.

Rachael O’Neill and Kelly Clark had opportunities for the visitors following this but they weren’t to be denied in the 29^th minute as Ewens powerfully volleyed into the roof of the net.

Farmington weren’t to let their heads drop after going behind for the second time and had chances of their own as Donna Paterson headed wide from Nicola Davidson’s free kick.

Danni McGinley saw her shot deflected wide in the 35^th minute but the final chance of the half fell to Celtic as McNicoll saved a Josephine Giard shot before Chloe Craig headed wide from the corner.

It was Farmington’s turn to score shortly after kick off as three minutes into the second half Cowper played the ball to McGinley and she rolled her marker before stroking past Cunningham.

Sarah Ewens was involved heavily for Celtic as they looked to take the lead for the third time; setting up Natalie Ross who fired over before being denied by Fiona McNicoll on three occasions.

Celtic sub Claire Crosbie and Farmington’s Erin Cattanach both sent efforts over the bar in quick succession but after 68 minutes the visitors regained the lead when Forfar failed to clear their lines as Sarah Ewens stabbed home her second of the afternoon.

Paterson saw her long range free kick held by Cunningham before McPherson came inches away from connecting with a Cowper cross as a deflection took it away from her and out for a corner.

The lead was extended with ten minutes remaining as Giard capitalised on some fortunate rebounding of the ball to slot past McNicoll.

Farmington reduced the deficit to one goal again two minutes later; Davidson’s free kick into the box causing problems for Celtic and sub Beth Shillitto rifled through a pack of players.

They were unable to find a fourth goal to take a deserved point from the game but the side and Stevie Baxter can be pleased with the reaction given following the previous week’s heavy defeat.

It was a disappointing afternoon for Forfar Farmington on Sunday as they were defeated 8-0 by Hibernian at Station Park.

The result leaves Farmington second bottom of the league with the season now a third of the way through.

Following the midweek defeat to Spartans, Stevie Baxter made two changes as Robyn Smith and Cheryl Kilcoyne came in for Beth McPherson and Lotte Deubel.

The visitors started off strongly and in the first fifteen minutes earned a large amount of corners but failed to threaten with these.

Hibs took the lead in the 13^th minute when the ball ended up with Kirsty Morrison inside the box and she squared it for Jamie-Lee Napier to sweep home.

Morrison and Reilly came close to doubling the advantage but six minutes after going ahead it was the former who found the net; capitalising on a defensive error.

Former Farmington attacker Amy Gallacher almost netted against the side she left in 2016 but her 22^nd minute effort was clawed out of the air by McNicoll.

Farmington’s first opportunity came in the 26^th minute as captain Nicola Davidson sent a 25 yard free kick wide of the mark.

60 seconds later Napier finished a solo run by adding her second and Hibs’ third but it wasn’t long until the lead was extended once again as Chelsea Cornet netted in the 31^st minute.

Hannah Stewart saw her 30 yard strike held by Jenna Fife before she denied Danni McGinley when the attacker stretched to reach a ball from Robyn Smith.

Despite Farmington enjoying a spell of chances, it was the visitors who were to find the net again five minutes before half time as Colette Cavanagh volleyed fiercely into the roof of the net.

Just 45 seconds into the second half Hibs had extended the lead to 6-0 as Morrison capitalised on another error to join Napier on two goals for the day.

Stewart came close to pulling one back three minutes later when she combined with Beth McPherson before sending a curling effort onto the top of the crossbar.

McNicoll and Kilcoyne had to work hard to clear a Small effort off the line twice before Davidson sent a free kick on to the roof of the net at the other end.

Gallacher nodded over for Hibs just before the hour mark with keeper Fife nicking the ball off the head of McGinley as Farmington kept looking for a goal.

McNicoll denied Cavanagh her second from close range but Reilly was to go one better with seven minutes left when she saw her first effort parried and was more than happy to tuck home the rebound.

With a minute of normal time left Napier sealed her hat-trick to complete a torrid afternoon for Stevie Baxter’s side.

Forfar Farmington were defeated 2-0 by Spartans under the floodlights of Station Park on Wednesday in the SBSSWPL1.

An excellent free kick from Michaela McAlonie in the first half and a late and controversial penalty netted by Kaela McDonald-Nguah gave the visitors all three points in a tight game.

Farmington were dealt a blow with four starters unavailable for the fixture as Kayleigh Brough, Erin Cattanach, Cheryl Kilcoyne and Robyn Smith were replaced by Nicola Davidson, Leah White, Katie Hassett and Lotte Deubel; the latter two making their first starts.

Beth Shillitto and Ashleigh Smith were also called up from the SWFL2 team as Stevie Baxter aimed to take all three points.

The hosts started off well and had the first opportunity after three minutes when Danni McGinley sent her shot just past the post.

Spartans were awarded a chance six minutes later as Leah White fouled on the edge of the box; Michaela McAlonie stepped up to curl home a brilliant free kick past McNicoll.

Farmington looked to come back from this early blow with Hannah Stewart sending an effort into the grateful arms of Rachel Harrison.

Kaela McDonald-Nguah split the home defence in the 13th minute with a ball that allowed Louise Mason to go one on one with Fiona McNicoll and the attacker probably should have done better as she blasted wide.

She almost went one better eleven minutes later when a long range strike was palmed over by McNicoll.

McNicoll was called into action again when she punched away a McDonald-Nguah lob.

Stewart and McGinley linked up well in the 39th minute as the former sent the latter in on goal but Harrison did well to block the shot.

Alana Bruce tried her luck from distance a minute later but couldn’t find the target; the last action in the half fell to McDonald-Nguah as she headed wide after meeting a cross.

Both sides were matching each other well in the first half with only a stunning goal the difference between the sides.

The second half was much the same as both sides battled hard in the sunset at Station Park.

Stevie Baxter made an early change as Beth Shillitto made her first appearance at a Premier League level since March 2018 replacing Lotte Deubel.

The visitors’ Katie Frew fired wide in the only effort of the half’s first quarter of an hour.

Zoe Johnstone thought she had added a second for Spartans from the edge of the box in the 66th minute as she beat Fiona McNicoll but her shot hit the crossbar before a goal kick was awarded.

Midfielder Beth McPherson tested Harrison shortly after from 25 yards as Farmington hunted for an equaliser but it was the visitors who were to seal all three points with a controversial penalty.

With sixteen minutes remaining McNicoll beat away a Beth McKay shot and when Frew attempted to control the ball, Katie Hassett got a challenge in and won the ball cleanly. Despite this, referee David Fearn awarded a penalty to the visitors.

McDonald-Nguah stepped up and slotted home Spartans’s second, sending McNicoll the wrong way.

The visitors shut up shop after this with the closest anyone came to something resembling a shot was Hannah Stewart’s free kick that was easily held by Harrison.

As time wore on Stevie Baxter handed a Premier League debut to Ashleigh Smith for the final ten minutes, replacing Beth McPherson.

The result means Farmington stay seventh for now with a tough clash with Hibernian ahead of them this weekend but Baxter can be pleased with his side’s performance in what was a tight game.
