SBSSWPL2: Glasgow Girls 0 Forfar Farmington 1

Danni McGinley’s first half goal was enough to ensure Forfar Farmington extended their lead at the top of the Scottish Building Society Scottish Women’s Premier League Two.

McGinley’s 39th minute winner gave Farmington all three points against Glasgow Girls and pushed them eight points clear of second place Motherwell.

After last week’s 1-1 draw with Jeanfield Swifts, only one change was made with Kirsty Deans dropping out for Alison Debio.

Megan McCarthy came close for Farmington in the opening sixty seconds; hitting the post from a Nicola Davidson free kick however she was adjudged to have been offside.

Four minutes later Robyn Smith’s cross was headed wide by Cheryl Kilcoyne.

Forfar continued their early pressure but couldn’t find a way past the keeper as Danni McGinley and Kilcoyne both saw shots blocked in quick succession.

McGinley lashed over following a Julia Scott cross before Kilcoyne beat the keeper only for Kirstin McGuire to clear off the line.

Just after the half hour mark Scott saw her well struck free kick pushed past the post.

Farmington eventually found the net six minutes before half time when Fiona McNicoll’s clearance found its way to McGinley and she advanced towards goal before coolly slotting home.

Smith and Nicola Davidson were denied as the break approached with Gemma Collier nodding wide from a Scott corner.

In the second half Glasgow Girls looked to get back into the game with a change of formation and came close through half time sub Lauren Coleman but she could only send her effort straight at Fiona McNicoll.

Gillian Sloey fired into McNicoll’s arms after turning the defence in the 57th minute while at the other end Davidson fired a long range shot at the keeper.

McGinley had her 68th minute chance deflected into the keeper’s arms before Caroline Heron blasted wide on her return to the club.

Despite both sides looking to create chances the next clear cut opportunity wasn’t to come until the 83rd minute; Heron having a shot deflected wide before Smith struck into the keepers arms when Laura Parsley’s corner wasn’t cleared.

The hosts had the final chance of the game when Chloe Docherty sent her shot wide but Farmington held on to take a deserved three points.

The side have a break from league action next week when they travel to Cumbernauld Colts’ Broadwood Stadium for a Scottish Cup Quarter Final tie.
